Child Contact Issues
If you and your partner separate and cannot agree who your children should live with, how parental responsibility should be exercised, or how often each person can see them, then you may apply to the court for a decision.
Issues also tend to arise when it comes to taking children on holiday, financial agreements that affect your children, and general wellbeing. In cases where the child is adopted, there may be even more complex issues.
Court orders
The court may make a residence order where there is a dispute over where the child should live. This declares where the child should live, and for how long. Contact Orders may be made in order to regulate various types of contact between a parent an child, including: telephone calls, visits, weekends and holidays. The court may also make a Prohibited Steps Order where one parent is concerned with the other’s actions relating to their child, for example, leaving the country. A specific issue order may also be made if you and your partner cannot agree on a specific aspect of your child’s upbringing, such as what school they go to.
